If you are anything like I used to be, the very sound of the word essay might strike a note of dread in your heart. I disliked school the first day I went and I managed to maintain that dislike until the day I left, when, by way of celebration, I burned some of my school uniform on the bus going home.
It was nearly fifteen years before I changed my mind about study in general and essays in particular. With the help of some godly teachers at Bible College, I discovered that a competently researched and well-written piece could actually be of spiritual help. This took me a little by surprise. Partly because of my time at school, and partly because most of my early Christian experience had been in the Charismatic and Pentecostal streams of the Church.
I now read and enjoy a wide variety of Christian literature, and I have learned how to appreciate short, focussed pieces. During the time I have been involved in developing the Unboring Book Company, it has become apparent that there is a gap in the Christian market for writing that is short, sharp, to the point and with a serious challenge to the way we think. These short essays seek to help remedy that.
The essays come in a mixture of subjects and styles, though I hope that the one thing they all have in common is that they will set you thinking about your faith in Jesus.
